Cathleen Ballance, MD, presented the abstract, "Discordance between Reported Compliance and Knowledge Regarding Appropriate Home Management of Childhood Asthma in an Underserved Population," at the meeting of the Eastern Society for Pediatric Research in March 29, 2008, in Philadelphia

Cathleen Ballance, MD, conducted a parental survey for clinic children with asthma to determine their knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about their child's asthma and asthma home management. The study found that parents reported compliance with the prescribed treatment regimen for their child, but they also exhibited a lack of understanding about the treatment based on survey responses. The survey information will be used to improve the asthma education program in the pediatric clinic at the Family Health Center
