Pediatric Teaching Conferences
Morning Report
Held Monday, Wednesday, Friday starting at 8 a.m. Admissions and clinical cases are discussed with general and subspecialty pediatric faculty for approximately 30 minutes. All residents are expected to attend.
Grand Rounds / Tuesday Morning Pediatric Conference
Held every Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Speakers from all aspects of pediatrics will provide lectures on a diverse array of topics. Pediatric conferences will be on a rotating schedule with Grand Rounds to include Case Conferences, GI/Pathology Conferences, Pediatric Research Conferences, Morbidity and Mortality Conferences and Evidence Based Medicine Presentations. All residents and faculty are expected to attend.
Journal Club
Held six-seven times per year at noon. PL-2 resident will work with a member of the faculty and the Director of Pediatric Research to present an interesting scientific article to the audience. All residents and faculty are expected to attend.
Pediatric Cardiology Case Conference
Held weekly from 8-8:30AM. Pediatric cardiology faculty members will discuss interesting, difficult or unique cases. Resident and medical student interaction is a key portion of the case discussion.
OB/Neonatal Collaborative Meeting
Every other month the pediatric residents and OB/GYN residents will present an interesting, difficult or unique case from the NICU. All pediatric and OB/GYN residents and faculty are expected to attend.
Service / Teaching Rounds
Service and teaching rounds are an integral part of the inpatient services (General Inpatient, PICU, NICU, Nursery). The general inpatient resident team will have its own service rounds every morning under the direction of the assigned hospitalist as well as its own teaching rounds under the direction of an assigned teaching attending. This can include bedside and didactic rounds.
Noon Conference
Held daily from noon to 1 p.m. Each session is run by a member of the faculty and offers instruction on various core topics in pediatrics. The topic schedule is established by the program director with particular attention to the core curriculum of the residency program. All residents are expected to attend.
Sign-Out Rounds
Residents will gather at the end of the day when all routine work is completed to sign out patients to the oncoming call team. All pertinent information concerning each patient will be discussed in order to ensure proper transfer of care to the overnight call team.
Clinic Conference
Held at the end of pediatric clinic sessions. General pediatric faculty and residents will present outpatient pediatric topics for discussion.
Boards Review
Held weekly during the last 6 months of the year. Various pediatric generalists and subspecialists will review AAP PREP and board-type questions with the residents to prepare them for board certification. All residents are expected to attend.
House-Staff Forum
Held monthly, this is restricted to only residents and no attending is allowed. Here, concerns are shared and discussed with the chief residents.
House-Staff Lecture Series
Held monthly for all house staff in the hospital. Various institutional policies and competencies are discussed.
