Director's Introduction
Welcome to the Pediatric Residency Program at K.Hovnanian Children's Hospital.
Our program is dually accredited by both the ACGME and the American Osteopathic Association. Our program's goal is to prepare our residents to be competent general pediatricians who can provide comprehensive and coordinated care to a broad range of pediatric patients.
Perhaps the strongest part of our program is our residents. We currently participate in both the NRMP and AOA Match and select 7 residents per year. We are happy to have had the good fortune to match bright, hard working and diverse groups of residents. We are very proud that our residents have consistently been awarded first place in our hospital's annual Research Day and that our graduates have been placed into top choice fellowships and primary-care job settings throughout the country.
We are also very proud of our faculty and administration and their dedication to support our pediatric residents through a collegial and supportive educational process. Our program's size allows our residents to develop hands on experience and close working relationships with our faculty. We also have an extensive schedule of educational conferences. Our faculty advisor system ensures that every resident has a mentor who provides clear assistance. Additionally, as a major university affiliate of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, we offer all our residents the advantages of a large academic program in the setting of an outstanding community based training program. We have medical students rotating throughout the year and our residents are an integral part of the teaching program.
Our residents are trained in the ACGME core competencies: patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, practice-based learning and improvement, professionalism and systems-based practice. K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital is the region's most comprehensive pediatric program. Consequently, each and every child with medical need, be it a new concern, a chronic problem, or an obscure diagnosis, can come through our front door and be cared for by our residents.
Finally, the Jersey Shore is a wonderful place to live. We are in full compliance with ACGME duty hour requirements, allowing our residents to enjoy being less than one mile from the beach, an hour south of Manhattan, and 80 minutes east of Philadelphia. As a result, many of our residents opt to stay in the area for their life's career.
