Residency & Fellowship Programs
Pediatric Residency Program
K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center offers a progressive curriculum in a nurturing environment with individual attention. There are seven positions at each level.
The children's hospital is a regional referral center, with a wide range of tertiary pediatric services, serving a large and diverse patient population.
Services include an active Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a six-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the region's only accredited Pediatric Trauma Center. Our residents obtain extensive experience in stabilization, transport, and management of critically ill children.
Our teaching staff consists of 90 salaried and voluntary attendings, most of whom are primary care pediatricians. There are 7 Neonatologists and 3 Intensivists, and additional subspecialists in the disciplines of Adolescent Medicine, Allergy/Immunology, Behavioral/Developmental Pediatrics, Cardiology, Endocrinology/Metabolism, Gastroenterology/Nutrition, Genetics, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Psychology, Psychiatry, Preventive Medicine, Pulmonology, Sports Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Radiology, and Urology
The children's hospital offers a wide array of ambulatory experiences. A growing continuity clinic, neighborhood health centers, schools and private offices offer the residents a supportive environment in which they provide primary health care to a diverse population. In all of these settings the resident serves as the primary care giver under the supervision of our general pediatrics faculty.
Research and scholarship are emphasized during training. With the assistance of a faculty advisor and a biostatistician, every resident carries out a research project, producing a paper suitable for publication. Some of this work has been presented at national and international meetings.
There is a strong emphasis placed on didactic learning. This includes daily lectures, morning report, journal club, board review, Grand Rounds, morbidity & mortality conferences as well as conferences with nationally renowned guest speakers.
The Department supports a fully accredited Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine which is nationally recognized.
