Meridian Health First Health Care System In The Region To Receive CEO Cancer Gold Standard Accreditation

First health system in Monmouth and Ocean counties to be nationally recognized for taking actions to reduce cancer risk of team members and their families

Neptune, NJ -  Meridian Health was recently announced as the first health care system in Monmouth and Ocean counties to receive the CEO Cancer Gold Standard Accreditation from the CEO Roundtable on Cancer. This accreditation recognizes Meridian’s commitment to taking concrete actions to reduce the cancer risk of our team members and their families through screenings, early detection, and health changes in both lifestyle and the workplace.

The CEO Cancer Gold Standard calls for companies to evaluate their health benefits and corporate culture and take extensive, concrete actions in five key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace. To earn Gold Standard accreditation, a company must establish programs to reduce cancer risk by discouraging tobacco use; encouraging physical activity; promoting healthy diet, and nutrition; detecting cancer at its earliest stages; and providing access to quality care, including participation in clinical trials.

“At Meridian Health, we strive to provide as many wellness initiatives to our team members as possible, whether that is through our team member Intranet which includes several wellness programs and tools, or through assistance and support with smoking cessation,” says John K. Lloyd, FACHE, president of Meridian Health. “Receiving this accreditation demonstrates our value to the heath and well-being of our team members and their loved ones.”

In 2008, Meridian was one of the leading organizations in the New Jersey Hospital Smoke Free Campus Collaborative in the effort to create a totally smoke-free environment at each of our campuses.

The CEO Cancer Gold Standard was created by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization of cancer-fighting CEOs in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, many of its designated cancer centers, and leading health nonprofit organizations and professionals.

Meridian Health is a family of not-for-profit health care organizations comprising Jersey Shore University Medical Center and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital in Neptune, Ocean Medical Center in Brick, Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, and Meridian Partner Companies that include home health services, skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, ambulatory care, ambulance services, and occupational health centers located throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.
