Jersey Shore University Medical Center offers the most comprehensive Congenital Heart program in New Jersey

Neptune, NJ - Jersey Shore University Medical Center recently announced that Dawn Calderon, D.O., FACC, has joined the hospital’s medical staff as Director of Adult Congenital Heart Services. Dr. Calderon is one of fewer than 250 doctors in the country who has advanced training in this highly specialized aspect of cardiovascular disease.

With the addition of Dr. Calderon, Jersey Shore University Medical Center is now home to one of only a few adult congenital heart programs in North America and the most comprehensive Congenital Heart program in New Jersey, staffed by physicians with advanced training in both adult and pediatric congenital cardiology. Working as the co-director of Dr. Calderon’s congenital heart program is Vincent Zales, MD who has an extensive background in pediatric cardiology.

With continued medical advances, children born with congenital heart defects are now living into adulthood and facing new challenges, such as pregnancy, travel, hip surgery and more.

Dr. Calderon will be developing a complete two-way program that provides specialized medical treatment for all aspects of this patient-population’s needs and will be assisting obstetrical patients with high risk cardiac needs. With the addition of Dr. Calderon, Jersey Shore University Medical Center is now equipped to assist anyone with heart problems, whether an infant, an active adult or the elderly.

Dr. Calderon is also the site Program Director of the Booker Cardiovascular Fellowship, a joint program with UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, training the cardiologists of tomorrow. She will play a significant role in Cardiovascular research and clinical trials.

Dr. Calderon is a board-certified Cardiologist and will be working at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Dr. Calderon completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, her cardiology fellowship at the University of Maryland and an advanced fellowship in Congenital Heart Disease at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
