Meridian Health Receives Magnet Designation Fourth Consecutive Time

Neptune, NJ - In 1998, Meridian Health was the first health care system in the nation to receive Magnet Status at each of its hospitals: Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, and Riverview Medical Center; and Meridian Health is proud to announce these three hospitals have achieved this designation for a fourth consecutive time.

“There are no words that express my sincere appreciation for the work all of our nurses do on a daily basis,” said Richard Hader, R.N., Ph.D., FAAN, Senior Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer for Meridian Health. “Their passion and dedication places us among the best in the nation for nursing care.”

The Commissioner of the Magnet Accreditation highlighted several of Meridian’s strengths, including and not limited to: advocacy for patients, advancing nursing education, professional development, nurses’ participation in the community, the recognition of our work and our clinical outcomes as well as new knowledge generation.

The Magnet award is bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the largest and foremost nursing accrediting and credentialing organization, to honor the nursing staffs of the hospitals that meet the nation's highest standards. The Magnet Recognition Program for Excellence in Nursing Services was developed by the ANCC in 1994 to recognize facilities that provide the very best nursing care and uphold the tradition within nursing that supports professional practice. The program is based on quality indicators and standards of nursing practice.

The Magnet Recognition Program is acknowledged internationally as the gold standard for nursing excellence. Out of the 6,000 health care organizations in the United States, only 388 have received this award. The award is valid for four years and health care organizations are given the opportunity to reapply after four years if their hospitals still demonstrate the top quality standards needed to achieve the award.

Achieving the Magnet award shows that Meridian Health nurses provide top quality patient care. The re-designation of this award confirms that our hospitals and nurses repeatedly deliver excellent customer service.
