Occupational Therapy
About our Occupational Therapy Program
It usually starts after age one ... your child shows signs that he or she wants to try to accomplish certain daily tasks, like brushing their teeth or putting on their shoes, by themselves. It's a step towards asserting their independence -- something which parents both yearn for and fear.
Children born with birth injuries or defects, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, or other pervasive developmental disorders, may need some extra therapy and training to help them accomplish some of these types of daily activities. And other children, such as those who just suffered a traumatic injury, may need to relearn old skills.
Occupational therapy can help children such as these on the path to improved cognitive, physical and motor skills. And, just as important -- it can help build their self esteem and provide a sense of accomplishment.
K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital offers a robust occupational therapy program with such services as:
- Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training
- Adaptive equipment training
- Cognitive/perceptual motor training
- Custom splint fabrication
- Hand therapy
- Handwriting skills training
- Sensory integrative therapy

- Wheelchair evaluations
- Whirlpool therapy
