JERSEY SHORE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER RECEIVES $1 MILLION GIFT IN SUPPORT OF LANDMARK EXPANSION AND RENOVATION PROJECT

Ambulatory Care Center dedicated in honor of Richard A. Amdur, Esq. and family in recognition of their support

Neptune, NJ - Richard A. Amdur, Esq., of Colts Neck, and his family recently made a significant gift of $1 million to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and its landmark $300 million expansion and renovation project, Transforming Care: the New Jersey Shore. In appreciation of their generous support, Jersey Shore dedicated its Ambulatory Care Center in honor of the Amdur Family. The newly named Amdur Ambulatory Care Center was unveiled on October 23, at a ceremony attended by hospital trustees, Jersey Shore physicians and staff, friends of the Amdur family, and other Jersey Shore benefactors.

“The Amdur family truly cares about the health of this community, and has been loyal and strong supporters of Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Meridian Health for many years,” says John K. Lloyd, president of Meridian Health. “We are truly grateful for their tremendous generosity and support, and it is our honor and privledge to dedicate the Amdur Ambulatory Care Center in their honor.”

The Amdur Ambulatory Care Center at Jersey Shore offers advanced outpatient services such as same day surgery; outpatient radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and cancer treatments; cardiac rehabilitation; breast health services; and diagnostic imaging services such as X-ray, MRI, and PET Scans.

Among their many contributions to Jersey Shore and Meridian throughout the years, Richard A. Amdur has served on the organization’s board of trustees for many years, currently serving as Chair of the Meridian Hospitals Corporation Board of Trustees. Also, Mr. Amdur is the senior partner in the Eatontown law firm of Amdur, Maggs & Shor and a member of the Deal Golf & Country Club and The First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank. His wife, Mary, has also been a strong and active supporter for many years.

Her father, Dr. James Percy Pregnall, was a practicing physician at Jersey Shore when it was known as Raleigh Fitkin-Paul Morgan Memorial Hospital. Mary and her mother were active in the hospital auxiliaries. In the past, Mary has volunteered many hours in the Oncology Department at Jersey Shore.

“Jersey Shore University Medical Center has developed into one of the leading academic medical centers in the tri-state region, providing exceptional access to advanced medical care for our entire community,” says Richard. “My family and I are so proud of Jersey Shore and Meridian’s many accomplishments and are very excited of what is still to come as part of the new expansion project.”

Named “Transforming Care: The New Jersey Shore,” Jersey Shore’s expansion project includes a new patient care pavilion featuring all-private rooms and an innovative model of nursing care; a state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment building offering the latest in diagnostic technology, surgical suites, and new intensive care unit dedicated for cardiac patients; a new emergency department and trauma center with the ability to annually treat more than 100,000 patients; a new parking garage; convenient patient access improvements; and extensive renovations throughout existing buildings. As part of the project, the Amdur Ambulatory Care Center will undergo renovation, expanding its services and access for patients.

“With medical advances, more and more procedures and treatments are now safely and effecitvely performed quickly on an outpatient basis, without an overnight stay at the hospital,” says Steven Littleson, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “Ambulatory and outpatient care is one of the the fastest growing areas in health care today, and so it is especially fitting that we dedicate the Ambulatory Care Center in the Amdur family’s honor as it is often the ‘front door’ to our hospital for so many people in our community.”
