Personal Care in an Emergency Environment
For both emergency and non-emergency situations alike, Ocean Care Center offers a brand of courteous and customized care that our community greatly relies on and appreciates.
Ever enter an emergency center and wonder if you made the right decision? When Martin Konkus, the mayor of Point Pleasant Borough, rushed his 90-year-old mother to Ocean Care Center, he knew he had come to the right place.
Prompt and Professional Emergency Services
"My mother had just taken a nasty fall on the cement, hitting her head," Martin recounts. "As we arrived at Ocean Care Center, we experienced personalized care right away." When they were checking in, Martin's mother was worried that she didn't have her glasses with her and so she couldn't see the forms requiring her signature. To ease her worries, the front desk staff took their time and walked her through each form, describing what it said and answering all her questions. "The wait time to see a doctor was acceptable, and the medical staff was professional, methodical, and efficient. They went above and beyond to make my mother feel like a person, not a number," Martin goes on to say.
Because she had hit her head, the doctor who treated Martin's mother ordered a CT scan. Then, as they waited for the results, they were constantly checked on and never felt neglected even as new emergencies arrived.
Convenient Outpatient Services
Martin's experience with Ocean Care Center extends beyond this one incident, and each time, he's been equally impressed with the individualized care he's received. For the past two years, Martin has visited Ocean Care Center for non-emergency services — namely, for routine blood work and X-rays.
But during his most recent round of tests, his veins were not cooperating. As a Vietnam veteran and a four-year U.S. Marine, Martin felt he should have been able to calm his nerves. But no such luck; the situation was making him quite queasy.
Recognizing his discomfort, Martin's nurse kindly suggested that he go get his X-rays taken instead. When he returned, she promised, she would find him a more relaxing area where he could comfortably lie down and have his blood drawn. This is exactly what they did, and this time, everything went smoothly.
Mary Beth Kady, R.N., nurse manager of Ocean Care Center, stresses this type of personal care: "The convenience of coming here and having routine work done close to their physician and close to home makes our patients feel very comfortable. Our goal is to significantly reduce wait time while continuing to provide the highest level of care."
Indeed, when it comes to immediate, first-rate care for life's minor emergencies, Ocean Care Center is the right place to go. As a satellite emergency department, the Care Center is fully qualified and equipped to treat virtually all kinds of minor emergencies — like broken bones, sprains, cuts requiring stitches, burns, and stomach ailments — without the long waits and frantic pace of a hospital ER. Area patients benefit from the Care Center's 24/7 service, with round-the-clock medical attention delivered by highly qualified Emergency Department physicians, emergency trained registered nurses, and dedicated lab and X-ray technicians.
Thank You, Meridian
"Not only was the team at Ocean Care Center wonderful, but I continuously hear about the quality care offered by Meridian Health and Ocean Medical Center in the community," says Martin. "I am very proud of the fact that such a high-tech facility is right in my neighborhood."
