Taking On-the-Job Injuries in Stride
If you spend 21 years in the medical
transportation field, you’re bound to
hit a bump or two in the road. Mickey
Major of Howell, 46, has the knees to
prove it after several on-the-job accidents
while driving a SCAT bus for the Monmouth
County Department of Transportation.
Following two on-the-job accidents,
Mickey didn’t need to question where he should go for his care, because the
Monmouth County Department of
Transportation uses Meridian Occupational
Health to treat employees who are injured
on the job. Mickey couldn’t be more thankful.
"On-the-job accidents sometimes can’t
be avoided," says Mickey. "But knowing that
your care needs will be met by the best team
of professionals in the area is priceless."
A Team Approach
Both injuries required Mickey to have surgery,
and both times Mickey worked with
Meridian Occupational Health in Freehold
to get moving again. There, a team comprised
of physicians, a surgeon, a therapist,
and a case manager provided his primary,
surgical, and rehabilitative care. Both
knee surgeries were performed by Toby
B. Husserl, M.D., who is board certified
in Orthopedics, at Jersey Shore University
Medical Center. Dr. Husserl worked closely
with Adam D. Redlich, M.D., who is
board certified in Family Practice, physical
therapist Laura Squicciarini, and the case
manager team.
A Top Choice for Local Employers
"Comprehensive medical services are
available at six convenient area locations,
which is why six of the top 10 largest employers in the area choose us to care
for their employees," explains Nancy
Thorne, R.N., manager of Marketing for
Meridian Occupation Health. "We provide
prompt, on-the-job injury care and
case management. In fact, 90 percent of
the injured employees we treat return to
work within seven days of their injuries."
Meridian Occupational Health enjoys
consistently high patient satisfaction
scores. "Employers choose Meridian
Occupational Health knowing that we
have their best interest and that of their
most important resource — their employees
— at heart," notes Steven Crawford,
M.D., medical director.
"Everyone from Meridian Occupational
Health played a major role in my recovery,"
says Mickey.
