Flying With Diabetes

Before flying, which can affect your blood sugar and medications, take these steps:

  • About a month before your trip, see your doctor. Have your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels checked.

  • Ask what time meals are served on your flights.

  • Plan to pack more than enough of all the medications and diabetes supplies you will need for the whole trip.

Recent security measures have caused changes in the amount of liquid diabetes medicine you may pack into your carryon baggage. Be sure to check with your airline about current restrictions prior to your trip.
