It’s a fact…The state mandates that every baby must have a hearing screening before being discharged from the hospital.
Our experienced and licensed audiologists follow up with infants who fail their initial hearing test within their first three months of life, helping to identify hearing loss and recommend therapies, as early as possible. Early intervention is critical for a child’s development of speech and language skills.
Sometimes infants pass the newborn hearing screening, but their parents and caregivers later discover that their speech, language and auditory skills aren’t appearing in a timely manner. In those cases it is very important that a complete pediatric audiological evaluation is completed.
Our skilled pediatric audiologists assess each child at his or her specific age appropriate levels. Some of these tests do not rely on the child’s ability to demonstrate that they can hear.
A common cause of hearing loss in children is an ear infection or fluid in the middle ear. This can sometimes be hard for a parent to notice because it is not visible. The degree of hearing loss can vary over time and make it hard to detect. If unchecked, speech delay or permanent hearing loss can result.
Specific assessments include:
Audiological baseline testing and complete evaluations
Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing
Evoked otoacoustic emissions (EOAE) testing
Hearing aid evaluations
Hearing aid selection and fitting
Hearing aid supplies, repairs, and service
Programmable/digital hearing aids
